Godzilla
A custom sculpt, commissioned by a client who was unable to find exactly what he wanted to complete his Godzilla collection.
Starting From Nothing
A wire frame, tin foil fleshing, and a steel pipe started the journey from nothing to something truly fun.
The client requested an 8" texturized and painted sculpture with as much detail as possible. With a little determination, a bit of polymer, and a heck of a lot of tools, I got to work making his dreams come true.
He's naked!
Pre-texture, we have an 8" Godzilla who bears a striking resemblance to a plucked chicken.
At this point, I am approximately 20 hours into this piece, have used a brick and a half of polymer, and have wired in each spine individually for a little extra durability.
And We have a match
The client's sample photo, covered in acrylic color-matching swatches, and the final sculpt pre-glaze.
The glaze (shown in the title photo) is a darkened pigment wash that brings out the beautiful texture in the piece, and gives it wonderful depth. Following the glaze, the spine horns were painted bone white, the piece was coated in a non yellowing topcoat, and signed.
